Canine handlers today make highly liable, personal and departmental, decisions often in split seconds. Handlers often know when or when not to deploy their dogs but lack a solid foundation as to why or why not this decision can be made. Canine handlers must be able to articulate precisely the facts and circumstances as to why the decision was made to utilize a canine, especially in use-of-force applications. In this course, teams will conduct various scenarios based on their specific State and Circuit Court cases. To include cases from the Supreme Court of the United States that have established factual findings for applications of canines. In addition, various "deploy or don't deploy" scenarios will be conducted. Canine teams will be asked to articulate their decisions based on the totality of the circumstances while debriefing each scenario.
